Not that there wasn’t enough incentive to enjoy living and working in Washington, D.C. area, here is another one – we are the first American city launching the largest Bikeshare program.

Marking the start of the Capital Bikeshare program the cycles are part of a new program in the Nation’s capital that hopes to encourage bike transport. The fleet is currently at 400 bikes but is expected to grow to 1,100 bikes by the end of October, making it the largest bikeshare in the country.

Using the bikes in the Capital Bikeshare program is as easy as picking up a chick! No! wrong example. It is as easy as going to Starbucks for a good coffee. Shit! Also worng example. Ok, I can’t think of a good one. But, believe me! It’s easy.

Anyone with a credit card can be a member and it costs $5 for one day, $25 for 30 days and $75 per year. The per use charge is free for the first half hour, $1.50 for the second 30 minutes, $3 for the third 30 minutes and $6 for every 30 minutes after that. The pricing is meant to encourage quick trips across town and to dissuade riders from taking long leisurely bike rides throughout the city. There are already more than 50 stations.

I really hope other cities follow suit. We seriously need to decrease the size of asses in the nation  :-) – particularly,  those in the mid West. Not to mention the program is also great contribution to having a greener and healthier life style.
